jcoco presents TASTEMAKERS

At jcoco, every decision and detail is driven by taste. Taste, by definition, is to become acquainted with something through experience. In the spirit of celebrating taste, we sought out culinary creatives in our own backyard TO LEARN ABOUT WHAT INSPIRES THEIR FLAVOR. THEN WE ASKED THEM TO #TASTEJCOCO.

I feel like we’re doing what we’re humanly supposed to be doing, and that is to learn how to live amongst each other. My purpose is to feed the people. And those people will feed other people.

chera amlag

Chera Amlag debuted her ube (purple yam) cheesecake at a pop up dinner in October 2013 to much praise and demand. One year and one month later, Hood Famous Bakeshop launched granting fans access to chera's creamy purple cake all year round, plus a host of other hand-crafted filipino modern and traditional desserts.

We spent a day at the Hood Famous kitchen in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle to grab a firsthand glimpse of Chera and team baking up favorites like homemade guava marshmallows and ube cookies. Learn more about Hood Famous bakeshop here.

I love the idea that food can be a bridge and help bring people together...and force you, in a way, to turn off all activities of life and just sit across from each other and have a conversation.
— Chera Amlag, Founder of Hood Famous Bakeshop

Heartwood Provisions is a restaurant nestled right in the heart of downtown Seattle. The experience is designed to showcase a true collaboration between kitchen and bar, offering beverage pairings for each dish served. Amanda reed lent her passion for flavor experimentation not only to the menu development at heartwood, but also to the design of the bar itself.

We introduced AManda to jcoco chocolate, and she whipped us up a few creative cocktails inspired by jcoco flavors, playing off of the sweet and savory medley in bars like Edamame sea salt in milk chocolate. Learn more about Amanda and Heartwood provisions here.

I really got sucked into the industry because it’s a very lively atmosphere...you can continue to educate yourself and be creative and find various outlets that make it interesting.
— Amanda Reed, Beverage Director of Heartwood Provisions
